Premium French Caviar Producers First to Adopt Low-Impact Feed

Caviar d’Aquitaine producers have become the first sturgeon farmers to adopt BioMar’s innovative Blue Impact feed. Already renowned for their dedication to quality and tradition, this association of French farmers are now working with BioMar to integrate Blue Impact feed into their farming practices, further solidifying their commitment to responsible aquaculture.

Caviar d’Aquitaine has built a global reputation for culinary excellence, along with its unique province, rich traditions, and decades of responsible sturgeon farming. Their pursuit of excellence is nearing official recognition through a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) certification, which is in the final stages of approval.

BioMar’s Blue Impact feed represents a significant step forward for Caviar d’Aquitaine. Developed to meet the highest regional and industry standards, Blue Impact feed reduces reliance on scarce marine resources, incorporates circular and restorative raw materials, and minimises the carbon footprint of feed production through responsible sourcing.

The innovative feed is designed to balance the environmental footprint of raw materials with the nutritional needs of aquaculture species, ensuring optimal performance in farming systems. This transformative approach supports sustainable farming practices while maintaining the exceptional quality that has made Caviar d’Aquitaine a globally respected name in caviar production.

The adoption of Blue Impact feed also includes rigorous monitoring to ensure compliance with animal welfare regulations and environmental standards. This transparent and accountable approach not only reinforces consumer confidence but also sets a new precedent for the future of aquaculture.

“We are thrilled to see Aquitaine Caviar become the first sturgeon farmers to adopt Blue Impact feed,” said Rocio Alvaro, Sustainability Lead at BioMar “Their commitment to innovation and sustainability aligns perfectly with the goals of the Blue Impact initiative. Together, we are demonstrating that premium quality and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.”

The Importance of Starting Strong to Stay Strong

Early developmental stages are a critical phase in any organism´s life that will determine its future. Marine Fish larvae are not an exception, during these early days, environmental conditions, feeding practices, and overall care will be fundamental for the success of the larval cycle and will substantially impact the subsequent ongrowing. What happens at the larval stage has a direct effect on growth, survival rates, and overall health throughout the whole production cycle. Providing the best possible start is key to ensuring healthy and high-performing fish.
